چکیده

Making virtual modeling as easy and intuitive as realclay manipulation is still an unsolved problem. This paper takes a step in this direction: in addition to offering standard features such as addition and removal of material, it uses a new real-time plasticity model to let the user apply local and global deformations such as those made in real clay by pressing with a finger or bending a sculpture with one hands. Although not completely physically accurate, the model exhibits several important features of real clay, namely plasticity, mass conservation, and surface tension effects. These features make the model intuitive, since the user obtains the shapes he expects, as demonstrated by our

Modeling by Deformation Using Swept User

We present a new class of space deformations suitable for interactive virtual sculpture. The artist describes a basic deformation as a path through which a tool is moved. Our tools are simply shapes, subsets of 3D space. So we can use shapes already created as customized tools to make more complex shapes or to simplify the modeling process. When a tool is moved it causes a deformation of the wo...

Hands on virtual clay

Simulated through a 3D grid storing the density of clay in each cell (0 for an empty cell, and 1 for a full cell). The surface is defined as the iso-surface at 0.5 of clay density. Clay behavior is captured by a layered model ensuring 3 properties: Large scale deformations (fig.1) Mass conservation by pouring the excess of matter in neighbouring cells (fig.2) Surface tension for preventing the ...

Virtual Clay: Haptics-Based Deformable Solids of Arbitrary Topology

This paper presents Virtual Clay as a novel, interactive, dynamic, haptics-based deformable solid of arbitrary topology. Our Virtual Clay methodology is a unique, powerful visual modeling paradigm which is founded upon the integration of (1) deformable models, (2) free-form, spline-based solids, (3) procedural subdivision solids of arbitrary topology, and (4) dynamic objects governed by physica...

Procrustean statistical inference of deformations

A two step method has been devised for the statistical inference of deformation changes. In the first step of this method and based on Procrustes analysis of deformation tensors, the significance of the change in a time or space series of deformation tensors is statistically analyzed. In the second step significant change(s) in deformations are localized. In other words, they are assigned to ce...

Interactive and Linear Material Aware Deformations

Most real world objects consist of non-uniform materials; as a result, during deformation the bending and shearing are distributed non-uniformly and depend on the local stiffness of the material. In the virtual environment there are three prevalent approaches to model deformation: purely geometric, physically driven, and skeleton based. This paper proposes a new approach to model deformation th...
